What is an ADR Vault?

An Architecture Decision Record (ADR) Vault is a centralized place to document why specific technical choices were made. Engineer OS lets you draft these decisions and instantly export them in Markdown format ready for Jira or GitHub, helping preserve institutional memory.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Engineer OS uses a Personal Perpetual License. You pay $49 once and own the software for life. There are zero recurring monthly SaaS fees.

Can I modify the software?

Yes. Under the Personal Perpetual License, you are encouraged to dive into the codebase and modify the dashboard to fit your specific engineering workflow. However, redistribution or resale of the modified code is prohibited.

Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By purchasing, downloading, installing, or using Engineer OS ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Software. These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User") and the Engineer OS team ("Company").

2. Personal Perpetual License

User is granted a Personal Perpetual License for Engineer OS. This allows for individual lifetime use of the software on the user's personal systems and personal modifications, but strictly prohibits any redistribution, resale, or sub-licensing of the software in any form.

The Personal Perpetual License grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual right to install and use the Software on any number of personal devices you own or control. "Personal use" means use by you as an individual — not on behalf of an organization, corporation, or other entity unless expressly authorized in writing.

3. Use of Software

You may use the Software for personal productivity, engineering leadership management, and professional development purposes. You may modify the Software's source code for your own personal use. You may create backups of the Software for archival purposes.

You may not distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, or otherwise make the Software available to any third party. You may not use the Software to build a competing product or service. You may not remove or alter any proprietary notices, labels, or marks on the Software.

4. Intellectual Property

The Software, including all code, documentation, design, and associated materials, is the intellectual property of the Company. Your license grants usage rights only — not ownership of the underlying intellectual property. All rights not expressly granted in this agreement are reserved by the Company.

5. Data and Privacy

Engineer OS is a local-first application. All data created through use of the Software is stored locally on your machine in a SQLite database file. The Company does not collect, transmit, or store any user data. Optional AI analysis features that connect to external APIs (OpenAI, Ollama) are governed by those providers' respective privacy policies.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The Company does not warrant that the Software will meet your requirements, operate without interruption, or be error-free.

7. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall the Company be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your use of or inability to use the Software.

8. Termination

This license is effective until terminated. Your rights under this license will terminate automatically without notice if you fail to comply with any term of this agreement. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Software and destroy all copies in your possession.

9. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration.

10. Changes to Terms

The Company reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Software after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. Material changes will be communicated through the Software's update mechanism or via email.

Privacy Policy

1. Information Collection

Engineer OS is designed as a local-first application. The Software itself does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. All your tasks, incidents, architecture decisions, risk assessments, and brag documents are stored exclusively in a local SQLite database on your machine.

When purchasing the Software through Paddle, our payment processor, certain transactional information (email, payment details) is collected by Paddle under their privacy policy. The Company receives only confirmation of purchase and your email address for license delivery.

2. How We Use Data

Purchase confirmation emails are used solely to deliver your license and provide product updates. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may send occasional product updates or security notices to your registered email. You may opt out at any time.

3. Optional External Services

The AI Brag Doc Assistant feature optionally connects to OpenAI's API or a local Ollama instance. If you choose to use the OpenAI integration, your task summaries and brag entries may be transmitted to OpenAI's servers for processing, subject to OpenAI's privacy policy. The local Ollama fallback processes all data on your machine. The template fallback requires no external connections.

4. Health Endpoint Monitoring

The System Health Monitor feature makes HTTP requests to URLs you configure. These requests originate from your local machine and contain only standard HTTP headers. No personal or application data is transmitted during health checks.

5. Data Security

Your data resides in a single SQLite file on your local filesystem. Security of this data is governed by your operating system's file permissions and encryption capabilities. We recommend enabling full-disk encryption and regular backups. The Software does not implement its own encryption layer.

6. Data Retention

Because all data is stored locally, you have complete control over data retention. You may delete any or all data at any time by modifying or deleting the SQLite database file. Uninstalling the Software and deleting the database file removes all application data from your system.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, modify, export, and delete all data stored by the Software at any time. The Software provides built-in export functionality (DECISIONS.md, BRAG_DOC.md, HANDOVER reports) for common data portability needs. You may also access the SQLite database directly with standard tools.

8. Children's Privacy

The Software is designed for professional use by engineering leaders and is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be communicated through the Software's update mechanism or via email to registered users.

Refund Policy

Refund Policy Overview

We believe in the quality and reliability of Engineer OS. Our refund policy is designed to be fair while respecting the nature of digital software products and the Personal Perpetual License model.

Eligibility Criteria

Refunds are available if the software fails to run on your system. Please contact our support team with system details within 30 days of purchase for assistance or a refund request.

To be eligible for a refund, you must demonstrate that the Software fails to operate on your system despite reasonable troubleshooting efforts. "Fails to run" means the application cannot start, crashes immediately on launch, or produces critical errors that prevent basic functionality — not that specific features do not meet expectations.

Process

To request a refund, email [email protected] with the following information: your purchase confirmation (Paddle receipt), your operating system and version, Python version installed, error messages or screenshots demonstrating the issue, and any troubleshooting steps you've already attempted.

Our support team will respond within 2 business days. We may request additional diagnostic information or suggest fixes. If we cannot resolve the issue, a full refund will be processed through Paddle within 5–10 business days.

Non-Refundable Circumstances

Refunds are generally not available in the following situations: change of mind after successful installation, dissatisfaction with specific features or design choices, failure to meet prerequisites (Python 3.8+ and pip), issues caused by third-party software conflicts, or requests made more than 30 days after purchase.
